Description: Although not as common as its name suggests, this state-endangered species may be seen flying over or possibly standing on a mudflat.

Description: This is a fairly common large tern most often seen flying over the lakes or standing on mudflats south of the Dixon Prairie.

Description: This state-endangered tern species is associated with prairie wetlands and may be seen flying overhead.
Teal, Green-winged
Description: This small, non-diving duck is usually seen in small to medium flocks on Garden lakes or flying over.

Description: This rare southern visitor may be spotted in any wooded habitat at the Garden.

Description:A fairly common migrant and breeder here. Look for it in any wooded habitat on migration or in McDonald Woods in summer.
Swift, Chimney**
Description: The Garden's lone swift species is exclusively seen flying overhead in small groups while chasing insects. In the evening, they dive into open chimneys where they roost and nest.
